Ferry Corsten
Irave- Why the name “ Twice In a Blue Moon”?
Ferry- Well how can I put it in words!.....it means a couple of things, I made the album while expecting my daughter. The name Twice in a Blue Moon is the name of a flower of an English rose, is a rare type of rose... so that already by its self is a pretty passionate name also once in a blue moon is the typical saying of once in great while, and its an over the top sort of romantic idea that your only supposed to find true love once in your life, but with my daughter I have my second love.
Irave- Can you elaborate what Twice In a blue Moon the Experience is?
Ferry- Twice in a Blue the Experience is basically a concert show that am touring world wide right now, the whole show is 4 hours long. I will be playing for the first 2 hours all the tracks of the album including live acts and lots a special affects. The last 2 hours is its all Ferry stuff., like.....all my old classics, my remixes, you know It’s a typical Ferry Concert.... but it’s based on the album.”
Irave- Is the “Experience” what you expected? Do the fans love it or have you heard any negative comments on it?
Ferry- Not so far I have done 5 shows and LA Is going to be 6th show... I’ve done 2 shows in Australia and the people really loved it, it’s sort of a capture thing, you know your going to get a Ferry Corsten production but also with the whole visual, light, and everything that makes the show.. ah! But you know that anybody knows what am playing, and knows exactly what they get. There’s no secrets, no real sort off maybe his going to play something different than what I know him for and with that sort off mind set the people come to the event and their vibe is just really through the roof. Yeah!! so far it’s been really amazing!!!
Irave- Is every show the same or does it change?
Ferry- Well... the concept it self Twice in a Blue Moon highlighting. so what I do every time I definitely play all the tracks in the album, but sometimes I need to play another track in between the two album tracks, in order to make the show yield in slower.
Irave- On the track Made of Love, it initially was not intended to not have vocals, what made you add vocals to the track.?
Ferry- Initially I made it just as a trance track and then I was looking for vocal tracks for my album and then I met Betsie Larkin in New York we started talking about electrical music and what I do. She said well I really love the melody side of that music she said if were going to work on something, I would like to hear some stuff I then sent her the initial original Made of Love which was also a lot faster than the original she basically got on writing. what she wrote sounded so good, that I was ..am you know what am just going to take the original track slow it down and re-arrange it and we wrote it and basically that’s the Made of Love track what you know.
Irave- I love the track!!! to me it’s like am reinventing myself!!
Ferry- (laughing) it’s very much and I know it’s soulful and when I played in Australia when I was up on the stage performing that song, the whole room was singing the song word by word it’s just the most amazing vibe it gave me goose bumps it’s just great!!!
Irave- Will your Full on Ferry Tour ever play here in the states?
Ferry- Uh!! Well initially when we started Full on Ferry we never had any ambition to go out side of Holland, also because of the 1st Full on Ferry and the 2nd as well, we had this flying platform, the DJ booth was flying over like 10,000 people..... really over the heads of the crowd and with that alone I think that’s theirs no way that we can get away with it in the U.S. (laughing) you know! That’s one but we have started to get request to start doing it in over there so right now we are thinking about that. I don’t know when but there’s so much demand for it but … apart from that the whole concert is 8 hours and as the host of the nght and then one by one my guest start appearing and then different style of music from house to techno to trance with the whole sort of flow of dynamics is just really interesting... one minute your listening to trance and then your listening to a house DJ and go back with me playing, you know! And yeah... the biggest challenge for us as the DJs’ is to make the night flow even when where playing different styles. It’s a really a good concert!
Irave- Who is Ferry Corsten as a person, not the Dj/ Producer?
Ferry- Who am I? Well as a DJ as well, am a 35 year old guy from Holland, I study to become an Electrical Engineer, basically to do electrical systems in buildings but also am a very calm guy... what else?? I love snow boarding, not much more...
Irave- Do you get nervous when you do a show?
Ferry- No!! not really, that’s like over the years had faded away, I get really exited when I get nervous I say it’s part of a negative structure and that’s what I see when I get nervous but I get really exited like I cant wait to start and let’s do it!!
